The biggest Mehrangarh Fort is situated in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This was the largest fort of 15th century. Its located on high hill 122m above from the ground with eight gates and numerous towers surrounded by high wall is ten 10km. History of Mehrangarh Fort
The fort is one of India’s oldest forts and is the symbol of India’s rich past. Ranmal Rao the king of Jodhpur had 24 children and Rao Jhoda was one of them became the 15th Rathore ruler. After a year of taking the reins of government Rao Jodha seemed that Mehrangarh fort was unsafe. Then he proposed the idea of creating a new fort on the hill 9 kilometers from his fort. There were enough birds. So the hill was known as the down bird. Rao Jodha laid the foundation of the fort on the hill in 12 May 1459 and Maharaja Jaswant Singh was completed this in 1638-78. Basically the fort had seven gates and the eighth gate was a secret door. The first entrance was packed with spike to prevent elephants attack. Others gate includes Jaypol gate build by Maharaja Man Singh in 1806. Fateh pole or Vijay gate built by Maharaja Ajit Singh in memory of his victory over the Mughals.

Rao jodha was deep faith in chamunda Mata. Chamunda is the kuldevi of the rulers of Jodhpur. Rao Jodha built the Chamunda Mata temple near by the Mehrangarh fort and established the statue in 1460. Temple doors were opened to the common public. Chamunda maa not only kuldevi of the ruler, but also the Jodhpur’s local people. Still, millions of people are coming there for the worship of god. And here special prayers, perform in the days of Navratri.
